Bringing affordable air conditioning to the elderly


JAPAN: Japan’s ecosystem ministry has introduced a membership service to make air conditioners far more cost-effective for its aged citizens.

According to Japanese federal government figures, the dying toll from heat stroke in Japan was 1581 in 2018 and 1224 in 2019, with much more than 80% of these people becoming aged 65 and around. 

Under the proposed plan, the consumer would bear the price tag of installing the air conditioner, usually about JPY25,000 (about $220), but does not require to invest in the most important unit. As a substitute, the user will pays a monthly utilization price of JPY2000 to JPY3000 ($17 to $26).
