Excellence in Sustainability award for regional NSW first
Through the vacation time period, HVAC&R News is showcasing the winners of the AIRAH Awards 2022.
The AIRAH Award class for Excellence in Sustainability is open to all folks, firms, corporate bodies, establishments and governing administration authorities, recognising do the job carried out in the course of 2020/2021.

This year’s winner was Benmax, for its function on the College of Newcastle’s Q Developing.
The University of Newcastle’s Q Building is the initially in regional NSW to attain the GBCA’s 6-star Environmentally friendly Star Style and design and As Created ranking. The 3,200m2 four-storey construction comprises CLT structure, rainwater seize (20kL) for cooling towers and bogs, 46.7kW rooftop PV, energy-effective HVAC devices, and electrochromic façade.
The building delivers a 92.4 per cent reduction in embodied carbon in comparison to a reference concrete making, and with sustainability steps applied will be carbon optimistic through its operation. Environmentally friendly Star modelling shows the HVAC systems will use 63 per cent considerably less electricity for heating, 70 for each cent significantly less energy for cooling (as opposed to a Eco-friendly Star reference making), and contribute to a 30 for every cent constructing water reduction.
