GERMANY: The University of Bayreuth has handed around a CO2-driven air conditioning method to the Kulmbach Vocational Faculty Centre (BSZ) for use in its functions and educating.
The technique, which was created the university’s Centre for Electrical power Know-how (ZET), has a cooling potential of 18kW. It incorporates a Bitzer Ecoline transcritical reciprocating compressor with frequency converter and SWEP plate heat exchangers.
As a demonstrator, it will serve vocational education in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration technological know-how in Kulmbach. The venture was funded by the Bavarian Point out Ministry for the Surroundings and Shopper Defense.

“The air conditioning process installed nowadays gives pupils at BSZ obtain to the most up-to-day know-how investigation has to provide. As long term experts, they can use this program to develop an knowledge of essential electricity technologies issues that need to be solved when complying with rigid ecological prerequisites,” reported BSZ director Alexander Battistella.
“A very first exam operate just lately met with terrific curiosity among the pupils of BSZ. In class, they realized about the ecological strengths of CO2 as a refrigerant and uncovered about present improvements in EU law aimed at raising local weather protection.”
The design of the plant, portion of the challenge FutureClimate – Advancement of Sustainable Air Conditioning Concepts, was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for the Surroundings and Shopper Safety to the tune of about €240,000 for a few decades.
