Industry calls for rethink on F-gas proposals

BELGIUM: Industry teams have been rapid to voice considerations that the EC’s F-gas revision proposal has “worrying” equipment prohibitions and an “unsustainable” phase-down that possibility undermining its individual environmental targets.

A joint statement from electricity and effectiveness human body EPEE, contractors’ group Area and the European Heat Pump Affiliation, criticises the “narrow view” on F-gasoline refrigerants contained in the F-gas revision document, printed these days, and statements it endangers the European Commission’s #In good shape-for-55 and #REPowerEU ambitions.

According to the groups, the proposed HFC usage constraints on existing refrigerants used in air conditioners and heat pumps, blended with inadequate choices and educated installers, “will massively decelerate the deployment of warmth pumps and other heating and cooling solutions”.

“We thus urge the co-legislators to protect the EU’s plans by ensuring the F-gasoline regulation is compatible with the availability of equipment, decrease-GWP refrigerant solutions and trained engineers to install them,” the teams condition.

Tricky brake

Thomas Nowak, secretary basic of the European Warmth Pump Affiliation (EHPA) claimed: “To satisfy the ambition level established forth by the “REPowerEU” conversation, we have to have a warmth pump accelerator and not a hard brake on warmth pump deployment. All heat pumps – including air-air varieties – need to be massively deployed and this desires to be plainly supported by all EU institutions.”

He added that the revision proposal wants “significant revision” if the EC would like to reach its renewables focus on and decrease the European dependence on fossil fuels.

Folker Franz, the director standard of EPEE stated that the EU would hurt its have induce by additional slicing the quota. “The present EU F-gasoline regulation quota currently cuts HFC use by 88% by 2030. Our modelling reveals that this will be just ample to put in the essential 50 million new warmth pumps by then,” he reported. “Greenhouse gas emissions from F-gases are pretty modest when compared with the emissions that can be saved by changing fossil gas heating with warmth pump gear.”

Marco Buoni, president of Location expressed problems at the shortage of sufficiently educated engineers to manage the enhance in flammable refrigerants that will be desired as a final result of the product bans. “With hundreds of hundreds of experts needing to be upskilled to properly handle hugely flammable refrigerants, the installer base will just not deal with to make the conversion in time as there remains a shortage of the two schooling amenities and trainers throughout the EU.”
